Meet Our Physicians and Staff
For more than 30 years, we’ve provided Dallas and surrounding suburbs with the BestCare possible!
David Carlson, MD
Medical Director
Dr. David Carlson has cared for patients of all ages for 32 years at his south Garland family practice, where patients are enveloped in a warm, welcoming atmosphere and treated like friends—because they are. “I love what I do,” Dr. Carlson says. “I try to show enthusiasm every day and get to know my patients, talking to them about their interests and families. This is not your standard doctor’s office. I put a lot of thought into making it an inviting, eclectic place where everyone feels comfortable and cared for.”
Dr. Carlson recently expanded and updated BestCare Family Medical Center, which now includes seven exam rooms, primary and urgent care services, on-site lab and X-ray services, and three PA’s on staff. The practice also offers convenient office houses, walk-in appointments, and diagnostic testing for nerve conduction, blood flow, and brain function. Dr. Carlson, a recipient of numerous industry awards for innovation in his field, says he is proud of remaining open to patients throughout the pandemic.
He wanted to make sure he was available to his patients when they needed him most. “We figured out a way to make it work with plenty of safety measures in place to safely see patients for routine visits and offer COVID-19 testing and telemedicine visits for patients who needed these services,” he says. “The reason I became interested in family medicine was having the opportunity to care for a wide variety of issues. Family medicine is never boring and always challenging. We emphasize preventive care here, which is why we participate in the Medicare Advantage Program, always looking at potential warning signs more aggressively and staying on top of things that could negatively impact our patients’ health.”
One of the many reasons Dr. Carlson’s patients have been coming to his practice for three decades is because of the time he spends with them during appointments. An avid antique collector, he has filled each room of the practice with his treasures–a good conversation-starter with his patients. In fact, some patients bring their own finds for the collection. Family history of disease, high blood pressure and cholesterol, diabetes—whatever the health issue, he thoroughly explores the diagnosis, risks, and treatment options. To make sure patients receive his undivided attention, he has a scribe attend each appointment so that he can spend time listening and talking to the patient rather than getting distracted by entering details into a laptop or on a notepad.” I am a common-sense doctor,” he says. “I try to cover all the bases and talk about what can be done to keep my patients well and living longer. We want to be here, practicing family medicine and taking care of our patients for another 30 years.”
Lauren Carlson, PA-C
Lauren Carlson PA-C was born and raised right here in Dallas, Texas. Lauren graduated from Oklahoma State University getting her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences. After undergrad, Lauren went to Oklahoma City University’s Physician Associate program and is excited to be back home and part of the family practice.
Lauren grew up watching her father work hard to help and care for others and is now doing the same!
